The dbx 266XS two-channel compressor/limiter with
expander/gate is an easy-to-use device for adjusting level differences,
lengthening sustain with bass and electric guitars, giving drums a fatter sound
or for improving vocal takes.
For its in and outputs, the system features symmetrical XLR
and stereo jacks, whilst its level ratio can be switched between -10dB and
+dBu. A sidechain insert allows you to loop in EQs and filters to the VCA’s
regulation circuit to achieve frequency-selective compression.
Two LEDs indicated the current status both under and above
the set threshold level. The system offers Threshold, Attack, Release and Gain
parameters as well as the ability to set times in auto mode depending on the
The compressor threshold functions either as a hard-knee or
with the dbx patented over-easy switch. This threshold is displayed via three
LEDs, whilst eight LEDs indicate the gain reduction.
Both channels on the dbx 266XS can be coupled when using
stereo signals and then operated via the left channel’s controls. This coupling
is achieved via True RMS Power Summing to guarantee a reliable and musical
effect on the signal.
