I have a Philips blu-ray DVD player and a Samsung HD ready TV. I wanted a better sound experience than the one coming through my TV'S tinny speakers but did not want to fork out for an expensive blue-ray DVD Home Theatre system. This soundbar saved me a fortune by providing something very close to what I wanted, without breaking the bank and leaving me stuck with a spare blu-ray player.

The sound system arrived with instructions, 1 set of (rca) audio cables and 1 set of aux (jackplug) cables (for other audio devices). The soundbar connects to the woofer by a plug-in cable, originating from the soundbar. The woofer in turn powers both units and plugs into the mains from its fixed power lead. The plug for the wall socket was a German model, but it came with a UK adapter provided in a seperate jiffy bag - so not a problem. The remote control needs 2 AAA batteries, which were not supplied.

I used the rca cables provided to attach my DVD to the system and bought and additional set for £6.00 from Asda for my TV. If you have any spare rca cables (red and white) lying about from an old stereo system however, they will also do the job. Anyway I used the other cables to connect up my Samsung TV too. The sub-woofer has 3 sets of audio sources to accommodate this configuration, made up of 2 x pair of rca sockets and a jackplug socket for any other additional suitable device.

After plugging everything together and switching the power on through the sub-woofer, I had to figure out if it was on - or on standby because it wasn't immediately apparent. There is a red flashing light when it's on standby, and a constant red when it's on - in addition to this, the light changes to blue when you use the other audio 'source' eg DVD or TV. It took a bit of 'jiggling' about with the cables to make a proper connection, but I got there and then I had to use the sub-menu mute over-ride for my TV to remove 'echo'.

After that - all was perfect. The sound comming from the DVD player and from the TV set is REALLY impressive, especially given the cost, and now I can enjoy my movies and TV with a very enriched sound experience. I'd highly recommend this system for the budget concious and even say it's as good as some 'market leaders' that I've had in the past.
